Case Study: Choosing the right design for the boardroom

How a leading manufacturing organisation assessed the skills it needed for its senior team to complement and strengthen its future as a market leader.

THE CLIENT:

As one of the world’s leading manufacturers of decorating products with a history stretching back more than 200 hundred years, our client was facing challenging times of competition and cultural changes.

THE REQUIREMENT:

When a new Managing Director was appointed he recognised that the long term success and growth of the company was going to demand that Directors and Senior Managers would need to step up from operational focus to more strategic roles and activities and it would be vital to select skills and capabilities to complement and shape the board.

Having worked with our client to assess the capabilities of other members of the senior team including the selection of the Managing Director, we were asked to help them assess and select a new key member of the board.

WHAT WE DID:

Accrete worked with our client to undertake an in-depth assessment process. This involved profiling and assessing each shortlisted candidate against the needs and culture of the organisation. Using a range of psychometric assessment tools and evaluation interviews which examined each person’s underlying capabilities and skills, backed up by interviews with the senior team we were able to provide our client with comprehensive profiles of capabilities, strengths and development areas as well each candidate’s contextual fit to the team, from which our client was able to make an informed choice.

Coupled with this, each candidate received comprehensive feedback.

THE RESULTS:

Positive feedback was received from all candidates involved which reflected a high degree of credibility on our client for their approach to selection. Importantly, the Managing Director and outgoing director felt reassured in the knowledge that the organization was well placed to move into a new phase of development and had a strong member of the team to help shape the future.

Profiling the team has also enabled our client to consider and highlight emerging themes and business implications for appointment, succession planning and team dynamics.
